Tips on Buying Your Home
As a new or experienced buyer, you have questions. When you
are ready to buy your home, you want your questions answered.
These tips will help guide you along the way. Listed below are
steps to make your home buying experience easier.
First: Find a Realtor®. Realtors are professionals familiar
with current real estate values. They can research and show
homes that meet your needs.
Second: Find out how much you can afford. Speak with a lender.
A mortgage lender can pre-approve a loan for you. You may want
to check with your bank about mortgage loans or ask your Realtor®.
Third: Look at homes. Since there are many homes, make sure
you discuss with your Realtor the features you want in your
home.
Fourth: Choose a home.
Fifth: Make an offer. You will complete a contract that your
REALTOR® will present to the owner's representative. The
owner, in turn, may accept the offer, reject it or make a counter-offer.
Counter-offers are common. It's important for you to remain
in close contact with your Realtor® during the negotiation
process.
Sixth: Speak with your lender to get final approval for your
loan. The information from the ratified contract for the house
you have chosen will be needed.
Seventh: Get homeowner’s insurance and any needed inspections.
Your Realtor can explain the different inspections.
Eighth: Go to Settlement. You will sign documents to accept
the loan and the transfer of title to your new home. The keys
are handed to you and the house is yours.
Ninth: Move in and enjoy your new home. It’s important
to be represented. Ask your Realtor about a “Buyer Broker
Agreement”.
